Third grade began exploring art throughout the ages, going back to the beginning of known art-making. We watched a portion of the documentary "Cave of Forgotten Dreams" which shows Paleolithic art in the Chauvet cave in France. Students watched an excerpt with the questions in mind "Why was this made? How was this made?" Here is a

Thinking about the works they saw, third graders were given a selection of raw materials with which to create their own art supplies. They created many kinds of marks as they combined and altered the supplies. Ask your third grader what kind of marks she made and how she made them.
