Fourth Grade Math

The big idea for math this month is fractions. Our students are using models and words to represent fractions and mixed numbers. They are able to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and improper fractions into mixed numbers. They are identifying equivalent fractions; starting with blocks and building equivalent fractions and now using computation to rename fractions. Simplifying fractions into their lowest terms is a challenging skill but the girls are finally feeling comfortable with this concept. Numerator, denominator, mixed numbers, improper fractions, equivalent fractions, and an old favorite, factors, are all part of our fraction vocabulary.
